The second record is done being a rumour. Jackpot Funk lands this fall, the lead single arrives before Halloween, and this one was cut the opposite way to House of Aces — brighter, faster, and written for a room full of people rather than the drive home.
House of Aces was a midnight record. Twelve tracks, brushed drums, a bassline that walked like a man counting chips. It did its job: five million streams, a video that outgrew its budget, and a residency that starts in August. But the songs that kept showing up at soundcheck were never the slow ones.
What Jackpot Funk sounds like
Short answer: like the floor at 1 a.m. when someone finally hits something. Long answer takes a bit more room.
Live room, no samples
Every take on this record was played by a person standing in the same room as another person. Three horn players, a rhythm section that has worked the lounge for years, and one microphone in the middle that catches the whole thing bleeding together.

Written between shifts
Nothing has changed about how these songs get made. SpinsBro still deals a few nights a week, and most of Jackpot Funk was written in a break room with a phone, a notepad and forty spare minutes.
